Healthcare

In 2011 CFF established the Carswell Family Health Centre at 1871 Danforth Ave. in Toronto: a full service four-storey facility for the South-East Toronto Community Health Team for the provision of comprehensive, coordinated primary health care services in an interprofessional setting, focusing on patient-centred care in areas of health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic disease management.

CFF provides continuing financial support to the Alzheimer Society of York Region to increase the capacity of the York Region Alzheimer’s D.A.Y. programs by at least twelve families per year.

In 2019 CFF established the Helen Carswell Research Chair in Dementia Care. This Chair is an endowed partnership between the York University Faculty of Health and the Alzheimer Society of York Region. With CFF support, the Helen Carswell Research Chair in Dementia Care will lead the York University/AS York partnership and undertake an evaluation of dementia care programs across York Region, including the efficacy of day programming, respite services, different models of care, and the benefits of caregiver support integrated into day programming.

Included here are the new Helen Carswell Fellowships in Dementia Care (2 master’s & 2 PhD students) to undertake evaluative research under supervision of the Helen Carswell Chair.
The CFF continues to support a program of undergraduate and graduate bursaries and medical scholarships at The Michael Garron Hospital to continue the further education of those serving as volunteers at the hospital.

For the Toronto Alzheimer Walk for Memories, CFF remains committed to matching the support of Kids for a Cause as part of the Walk for Memories (WFM) and extending that match throughout the year to support Third Party Youth (TPY) fundraising. The gift in 2020 involves both support for the WFM Family Night Matching gift and for the TPY fundraising initiatives.
