Chesapeake student arrested after administrators found loaded gun in her possession: police

CHESAPEAKE, Virginia. A girl who attends Chesapeake High School was arrested Monday morning after she brought a loaded gun to school, according to police.

It happened at Grassfield Middle School, school officials said.

School officials found the student with a loaded gun, Grassfield High School Principal Brian Hoginberry said in a statement to parents. This happened after the student reported the matter to a trusted adult, he added.

The girl was arrested and charged, police said.

School officials say no threats were made to students or staff during the incident.

In his message, Principal Hoginberry praised the student who wrote the report and reminded the Grassfield High community that guns are not allowed on school property.

“Chesapeake Public Schools is committed to prosecuting to the fullest extent of the law anyone who compromises the safety of our schools,” Hoginberry wrote.

Police are still investigating the incident.
