TCS NYC Marathon 2024: 400 Students Receive Free Shoes from New York Road Runners

NEW YORK (WABC) — The TCS New York City Marathon takes place this Sunday, but on Monday New York Road Runners focused on the next generation of athletes.

The Road Runners held their annual sneaker giveaway and Mr. and Mrs. Meth were on hand to have some fun.

The tradition began back in 2017 and has been growing ever since.

“This program has grown year after year, with nearly 100,000 kids now participating in the Rising New York Road Runners program across the five boroughs, and that’s a big part of what we do,” said NYRR CEO Rob Simmelkjaer.

Over 400 children from all 5 boroughs received free New Balance sneakers.

New York Road Runners hosts 60 races annually for adults and youth in New York City, including the TCS NYC Marathon.

2024 TCS New York Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 3, will feature more than 50,000 runners, and will be broadcast live in the New York City area on WABC-TV Channel 7, beginning with the pre-race broadcast at 7:00 a.m.
