Trump products significantly outperform Harris supporters: poll

A new study analyzed how many Trump and Harris products were purchased on Amazon this election season—and the difference is stark.

Omnisend, a marketing automation platform, recently published its findings in report entitled “The Multimillion-dollar Election Merchandise Industry: What Will Happen to It After the Election?” The study was conducted by technology research firm Cint in August 2024.

The researchers conducted a survey of 1,000 participants across America with a margin of error of +/- 3% and analyzed product sales trends from April to September 2024 using Jungle Scout software.

The report found that pro-Trump merchandise brought in more than five times more money than pro-Harris merchandise. Amazon sellers earned $140 million in sales Trump products from April to September, and Harris merchandise sellers earned $26 million.

The study noted that in July, the same month, $41.6 million was spent on Trump merchandise. former president was shot and killed by a gunman at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Study explains why Harris didn’t announce her presidential campaign to July, but the difference in sales between the two in August and September was stark.

In August, retailers made $27.86 million selling Trump gear, while products supporting Harris brought in $11.52 million in revenue. The difference grew in September, when Trump merchandise sales totaled $31.89 million and Harris merchandise sales totaled $10.43 million.

Omnisend noted that the merchandise analysis reflects “strong demand (for pro-Trump merchandise) among (Trump’s) loyal base.”

“From flags to MAGA hats, Trump products continue to dominate the market,” the company said, adding that Harris’ performance continues to be impressive.

“Harris’ merchandise sales growth is consistent with her growing popularity and engagement since entering the race, indicating growing support for her campaign,” the study said. “These numbers highlight not only the size of the political merchandise industry, but also the intense competition among candidates to capture voter enthusiasm through merchandise sales.”

Trump flags, hats and shirts remained the top sellers, while greeting cards, mugs, yard signs and stickers also sold for millions.

“Flags have proven to be the most popular Trump-branded product, accounting for 30% of total sales and generating $40 million in revenue,” Omnisend noted. “In addition to the flags, nearly a million MAGA caps flew off the shelves, making Trump merchandise a must-have item for supporters.”

“Outstanding sellers include Walker’s Trump campaign-branded headphones, which are estimated to have brought in about $3 million for one seller since being listed in late summer,” the study said. “Many stores that sell Trump merchandise also offer customizable items such as T-shirts, cups and hats.”

The study also found that 58% of Americans have purchased or plan to purchase merchandise related to the presidential election, indicating “growing interest in using merchandise as a way to express political support.”

“Brands can connect with customers by focusing on universal values ​​and topics related to civic engagement, such as voting or community involvement,” Omnisend senior e-commerce expert Greg Zakovich suggested to brands in the report. “This approach ensures broad appeal without polarizing your audience.”
