CashApp scam robbed woman of nearly ,000, Tybee police say

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) – The Tybee Island Police Department says a woman had nearly $3,000 taken from her account after a CashApp scam.

TIPD said that while talking to them, the woman said that she tried to send money to a family member through CashApp, but received an error message. After contacting CashApp, she received a call from someone claiming to be a technical support employee.

According to TIPD, the man convinced the victim to install an app on his phone that gave a user labeled “HelpDesk” remote access. During the incident, HelpDesk withdrew almost $3,000 from the woman’s account.

TIPD said a report has been taken and the case has been forwarded for investigation.
