Residents near UCCS on edge due to multiple gunshots

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — Residents in a neighborhood near UCCS are on edge after multiple gunshots were fired this weekend.

Luckily, no one was hurt, but neighbors say the problem is getting worse.

Just after 7 o’clock on Saturday, October 26, 2024, 7 gunshots and a car speeding away were caught on camera. This isn’t the first time neighbor Tiffany Jorgenson has posted about gunshots in the area.

KRDO13 spoke with her today and she said this is the seventh time this year she has placed her camera capturing a shooting in the area.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) confirmed to KRDO13 that there have been at least seven calls for shots fired in the area this year.

Jorgenson says she started posting and documenting it because, having lived in Cragmore for 20 years, she says it’s a growing trend.

“I would say the intensity of this has really picked up over the last two years,” Jorgenson said. “And we don’t feel safe. We’re starting to feel unsafe.”

Jorgenson says she’s constantly afraid of a stray bullet flying through their home, and while trying to raise a family there, that fear has led her family to consider moving.

Jorgenson wants other gun owners to be responsible, knowing that a stray bullet could cost someone’s life.

“People don’t understand that when you shoot in the air, it has to go somewhere,” Jorgenson warned.

Other neighbors KRDO13 spoke with in the area were extremely concerned and alarmed by the latest incident that happened last Saturday.

Colorado Springs police say they were collecting shell casings for evidence, but no suspects have been identified at this time.

CSPD says they are actively investigating and pursuing multiple leads.
