Firefighters in Harvey County are trying to put out a pair of grass fires.

HARVEY COUNTY, KS (KWCH) – Update: A large grass fire that started near North 125th Street and Rock Road has been extinguished, a Harvey County dispatcher confirmed. There were no reports of significant property damage or injuries from the fire, which was reported to have spread for a mile at one point.

Earlier Monday evening, also in Harvey County, crews were battling a grass fire further north and west, between Halsted and Hesston. This fire burned on First Street, west of Newton.

An active day for grass fires in south-central Kansas included a pair of runs into Harvey County: one in the south, just north of the Sedgwick County line, the other further north and west between Halsted and Hesston.

As of 7 p.m., Harvey County dispatch reported that the fire between Halsted and Hesston, burning on First Street west of Newton, was extinguished and crews were cleared from the scene.

Dispatchers said the fire near the Sedgwick County line, which had spread north from the area near North 125th Street and Rock Road, was still active. At approximately 5 p.m., dispatch confirmed the fire was about a mile in size.
