Two people rescued from raging river in Iao Valley during Maui floods

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui fire crews rescued two people from a fast-flowing river in Iao Valley on Sunday during heavy rains and flooding over the weekend.

Just before 2 p.m., the Maui Fire Department responded to a report of a man being swept away by rapidly rising waters.

Shortly after, a second person, a girl, was reported to be stranded elsewhere after being blown away, MFD said.

Firefighters were able to lift the man through the air, while a firefighter crossed the water to return the girl to safety.

No injuries were reported.

Salvation has come during flash floods across the stateincluding Maui. Some areas received nearly 5 inches of rain in just a few hours Saturday morning.
