Trevor Lawrence is the least of the Jaguars’ worries.

Trevor Lawrence is the least of the Jaguars’ worries.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of problems after a 2-6 start.

Trevor Lawrence is far from one of them.

Any quarterback who is 2-6 as a starter will be under consideration. Especially when someone loses games like Lawrence and the Jaguars, when the Jaguars have a 1-4 record in one-score games.

But when you look at the list of problems the Jaguars have faced and why they lost to the Green Bay Packers 30-27 in Week 8, Lawrence is neither at the top nor even in the middle. In fact, the fourth year passer is downstairs.

Yes, Lawrence helped get the Jaguars into the hole they found themselves in on Sunday. He turned the ball over twice in the Jaguars’ own territory, including a fumble at the five-yard line. Turnovers gave the Packers 14 of their 30 points.

But the Jaguars wouldn’t have come close to an upset win without Lawrence and his penchant for rebounding from mistakes. Despite the losses, Lawrence continued to shoot. He didn’t find himself cowering or hiding in his shell.

And when everything was on the table and the Jaguars needed Lawrence to overcome two different 10-point deficits – one in the first half and one in the second – he did just that. And he did it a second time without any of his top three receivers, with a backup at left tackle and without Travis Etienne.

Instead, Lawrence led the deciding play with two team-oriented special receivers, two tight ends and third baseman D’Ernest Johnson on the field.

“Yes, I am. I’m very pleased with how we’re responding. You don’t want to go down 10, but we’ve been down 10 for two weeks in a row, but we responded. The fact that we did what we did at the end and tied the game is pretty remarkable considering the amount of injuries we had late in the game,” Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Monday.

“Trevor (Lawrence) I think has done a great job leading the team. The guys around him, Parker, Tim (Jones), Evan (Engram), Brenton (Strange), I mean, they played for him too. The offensive line did some good things. So that part was good, and now we just need to somehow carry it into the first stage of the game and then continue from there.”

But despite Lawrence’s heroics, the Jaguars lost again. The defense fell apart at the seams and allowed the Packers to get into field goal territory on just two plays.

Lawrence struggled at times on Sunday, but he also overcame every negative play to put the Jaguars on his shoulders. And that’s why the current Jaguars staff won’t have to fix Lawrence, nor will the next one if Pederson and company are replaced.

Instead, it will be Lawrence who will be the most compelling part of the film. search for a potential employee. And games like Sunday are why.
