What does Kamala Harris win in Nickelodeon poll mean?

vice president Kamala Harris won the Nickelodeon Kids Pick The President poll, which could give adult voters some insight into who might win next week’s election.

Nickelodeon has been conducting polls since 1988, and child voters (or at least people who said they were children) have only predicted the next president incorrectly twice. In 2004 57% chose John Kerry for president and 43% chose George W. Bush. In 2016 53% chose Hillary Clintonwhereas only 36% chose Donald Trump. (Clinton, however, won the popular vote in 2016.)

This year, more than 32,000 people voted in the poll, which ran from Oct. 3 to Oct. 23, and they chose Harris with 52% of the vote, while Trump received 48%.

During the Nickelodeon Kids Pick The President special, American children discussed issues important to them, including the economy, school safety, healthcare and artificial intelligence.

Linda Ellerbee, former host of Nickelodeon’s children’s news program Nick News, said in 2008: “It’s important to pay attention to who won the kids’ vote, simply because so many kids vote the way their parents vote. But what really matters is that they participated in democracy. They voted. How can this be
anything but good?”
