This week there will be a “Dollars for Dumas” fundraiser for the Dumas-Wesley Community Center.

MOBILE, Alas. (VALA) – For more than 120 years. The Dumas-Wesley Community Center was an important part of Mobile. And this Halloween, Mobile Fire and Rescue will help give back.

Mobile Fire Rescue is preparing to accept what they call “Dollars for Dumas.”

Donations will help support all of the center’s services and programs for disadvantaged youth, low-income seniors and the homeless.

“We’ve been here for 121 years. I am honored to do this work. We feel honored to give back to this community that has been so kind to us. And I am very glad to cooperate with Mobile Fire Rescue. We are honored that they wanted to partner with us for this event. And it’s really rewarding to see what the community is doing to support us,” Kate Carver said.

The center offers dozens of helpful services such as after-school programs, summer camps and even emergency meals, utilities and rental assistance.

And the Mobile Fire and Rescue Service has been doing this for a long time.

“It started out as a game, shooting hoops and mentoring our kids, and today has grown into a full-blown partnership with these amazing firefighters in our community volunteering their time to raise funds for our community center,” Carver said. .

Beginning Thursday at 10 a.m., Mobile Fire and Rescue will be accepting donations at these locations.

-Rooses on Spring Hill

-Piggly Wiggly about the university

-Walmart on I-65

-Walmart on Schillinger

– Walmart on the corner of Tillmans.

“Just look for fire trucks in these different locations over the next three days. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They’ll let kids climb into the fire truck if they want. If you like, wear a suit on Thursday and consider giving back to your local community,” Carver said.

Mobile Fire and Rescue will accept donations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
