Wind warnings issued for parts of Vancouver Island

Two wind warnings are in effect for Vancouver Island Wednesday morning, with the federal weather agency saying the conditions could cause damage.

Areas affected by Environment Canada warnings include eastern Vancouver Island from Nanoose Bay to Campbell River and Greater Victoria.

“A Pacific frontal system approaching Vancouver Island will produce strong southeasterly winds,” the warning said. “Strong winds will increase this morning and weaken this afternoon as the front weakens.”

Maximum wind speeds are forecast to reach 70 km/h with gusts of up to 90 km/h in exposed coastal areas and near the Haro Strait.

The agency says strong winds could throw loose objects around, causing injury or damage. Power outages and fallen tree limbs are also possible.
