Halloween opening for Lunchbox Remembrance Day hit Jake’s Gift


Lunchbox Theater he turned 50 years oldth anniversary season with the return of one of the most popular shows ever.


Jake’s giftJulia McKee’s solo exhibition tells the story of Jake, a World War II veteran who returns to Juno Beach for his 60th birthday.th D-Day anniversary

During this visit, he meets 10-year-old Isabelle, a local girl who encourages Jake to confront his troubled memories of the past and maybe heal a little along the way.

This will be the show’s fourth staging at Lunchbox, following successful runs in 2011, 2012 and 2012. 2014.

In all, McKee has performed the show in 58 different Alberta productions—from Edmonton to Elnora, Mayerthorpe to Medicine Hat (three times)—and elsewhere, from the province’s bottom to its top.

McKee has also directed 65 productions in British Columbia, 46 in Ontario, 20 in Manitoba and 22 in Saskatchewan, among others, as well as numerous international productions.

McKee was born in Birmingham, England, then moved with her family to Montreal when she was three, before eventually settling in Victoria.

All Canadian veterans and active-duty military personnel can attend the Calgary shows for free, thanks to the support of Veterans Affairs Canada, using the code MILITARY.

The history of the origin of the lunchbox

Lunchbox Theater’s first production took place in 1975. It was founded by Bartley, Margaret Bard and Betty Gibb, who were interested in bringing live dinner theater to downtown Calgary.

The theater specializes in original one-act plays and has produced many Calgary playwrights.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the theater is offering old ticket prices for the Sunday performance on November 3rd.

On this day, you can get a $1 ticket (the price to attend the very first Lunchbox show in 1975) or a $19.75 Legacy Discount ticket in honor of the year it was founded.
