Scan Rules: Braden Star out of Cup

Trainers Trent Busattin and Natalie Young say they are “very disappointed” after Melbourne Cup contender Braden Star failed a mandatory scan, ruling him out of Tuesday’s race.

The stable made the decision to sign the talented player up for the spring but described the failed scan as “puzzling” after they were told in a statement released by X on Thursday that Racing Victoria “could be a shadow that could develop into a stress fracture”.

“Our stable and the Brayden Star ownership group, managed by Seymour Bloodstock, recognize that the welfare of horses is of paramount importance and welcome the processes put in place by Racing Victoria,” said a statement released by the stable.

“However, there is no sugarcoating this, our team are very disappointed as our horse has never been so visibly happy, healthy and in great shape.”

The stable said it was interested in working with RV vet Dr Grace Forbes and her expert team.

“We hope to further advance the data definition process and ensure that industry participants are better informed about the details of this process, i.e. that CT scanning is not just about collecting random results, as most people thought, but also actually used in a predictive manner). “, the statement continued.

“Veterinarians and their commissions only enforce the rules. If continued scrutiny of the results leads to rules being changed to remove speculation from decisions, it can only be to the industry’s benefit.”

“In consultation with Dr Forbes and her team, further research trials will be carried out before he heads to Seymour Park to stroll through the lush spring pastures before he aims to stay at the autumn carnival.

“We sincerely hope that all the other horses already in the Cup and those on the brink are cleared to compete and that they all return safely to their boxes after a great race on Tuesday.”
