Janelle Monáe’s Halloween costume is incredible.

The singer and actor brought on the nostalgia this week on The Jennifer Hudson Show. look dressed like the main character from the classic 1982 film E.T.

“I never thought I’d get to meet ET,” Hudson told Monáe as she greeted her on stage.

“Jennifer,” Monáe croaked from under the alien mask.

For her appearance, Monáe went out of her way to wear a costume that would intimidate Steven Spielberg’s classic character. Along with a mask featuring E.T.’s bulging blue eyes, the singer wore matching hands and even had the iconic glowing finger from the film.

“Do you hear a voice? Yes, alien, it’s me,” Hudson replied. “The finger lights up, look!”

“Thank you for coming to a happy place. I don’t know if I should say ‘Janelle’ or ‘ET,'” Hudson said of the singer’s transformation.

“The way I spit out my drink when you said it was Janelle Monáe,” one user responded to the Instagram post. “I CAN’T DO THIS TO ME, HUMAN! Mmmfaaaah! It’s funny but so CUTE, OMGGG.”

“Janelle just does it differently!” another wrote.

Monae’s Halloween fun didn’t stop there. In a separate post on InstagramThe 38-year-old singer shared photos from a photo shoot with Paul Kuruch, where she dressed as an alien.

“Finally, you’re back home,” she captioned the post: “Welcome back, alien. Thanks Google Maps. Yours sincerely starring as Alien and Janelliott.”

In the photo shoot, Monáe is dressed as an alien, recreating some of the film’s memorable moments. In one shot, the singer appears as E.T.’s friend Elliot in the iconic scene where E.T. lifts his bike into the sky, silhouetted against the full moon.

Partnering with the AMC network as the official host of FearFest, Monáe has been sharing her Halloween spirit on Instagram all week, posting costumes inspired by classic characters like Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein and even James Dean.

In an interview with Hollywood Reportershe explained the roots of her love for Halloween and horror.

“I had the kind of mom who wouldn’t let us see nudity in movies, but when it came to horror, psychological thrillers, sci-fi and fantasy, she didn’t restrict me from watching,” she explained.

“I’m very grateful to her because as a child it gave me an idea of ​​what I could become and how I saw myself as a creative person, an artist, a writer,” she added. “I knew I wanted to tell stories, and I was naturally drawn to things that scared me. When I was looking for books, I was always interested in the science fiction, horror and fantasy sections. I wanted to explore that feeling of, “Why am I afraid?” This continues to this day.”
