Google app finally gets Material 3 bottom bar on Android

The vast majority of Google apps have updated the bottom bar to the latest Material 3 design. The Google app (Search) has done so last year before returning, and now he is back.

Update October 31st: We can now see the bottom bar of Material 3 in the stable Google app channel 15.42. The navigation guide has been updated on tablets and foldable devices.

Original 10/10: It’s very simple: a pill-shaped indicator is used to indicate the tab you’re currently viewing. The Google app still uses a short bottom bar like some other third-party clients, but lacks Dynamic Color themes.

This change follows updated shortcuts below the search bar, which help make the whole app a little more modern.

This particular change and the new bottom bar have not yet been implemented into the stable channel. If you are on latest beta (version 15.40), force stop the application information to load the bottom panel of Material 3.

Why it took so long is another question. Presumably the Android app will eventually look like the iOS version and remove the text labels, but perhaps add other tabs such as notifications.
