The technician said Dorothea was scared, dehydrated, hungry and covered in ticks when she was rescued.

She was then taken to an animal hospital and examined further, where veterinarians also discovered a pair of broken teeth that needed to be removed.

Dorothea was then sent to a spa day and spent time recovering in an orphanage.

The humane society said it doesn’t know how long Dorothea was in the canal or how she ended up there. But what they do know is that her story “highlights the life-saving work” the humane society does with the support of its community.

Dorothea has since been adopted. The Humane Society said she is “living her best life” with her family in Youngtown, Arizona.
