Everton boss Sean Dyche hopes Dwight MacNeil will be fit enough to perform at Saturday’s show. Premier League Meeting with Southampton.

McNeill has been outstanding for the Toffees this season, playing more centrally and scoring three goals and three assists in nine league games.

However, the 24-year-old was withdrawn in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw with Everton. Fulham and now he faces a race against time to fully prepare for the trip to the south coast.

Asked about McNeil missing Thursday’s training, Dyche told a press conference: “Dwight has a chance. He did a little work with the physios today, so we’re counting on him.”

Abdoulaye Doucouré was also withdrawn late last night at Goodison Park last weekend and is also a doubt due to an unspecified niggle.

“Dux had a situation but he was on the grass today so we’ll see how he reacts,” the Everton manager said when asked about the central midfielder.

Elsewhere, Everton remain without James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam in midfield and Youssef Chermiti up front, but could soon welcome the summer with the signing of Armando Broch.

“He works hard and his stats are good, but he’s still on the sports science team,” Dyche said.

“The crossover could start to happen next week when he starts doing the easy stuff with us and then gets back to playing.”

“He’s been out for quite a while, so there will be a few games to play there as well.”

After losing their first four league matches, Everton are now unbeaten in their last five, but Dyche still believes there is room for improvement, especially after their mixed performance last time out.

“I think it’s starting to show in some of the performances,” he said. “I think last time (against Fulham we were a long way off target) but we still got a valuable point.

“I think the work that the staff, the players and myself have done has helped and I think it’s starting to show signs again.”

“We’ve been through this before, when things came our way, and we got through it. I think this is an important part of what the Club has been over the last few years – and what it continues to be today.

“The team had to show it, and I think we’re showing it again.”
