Mickey van de Ven appeared to downplay the seriousness of the incident. an injury he suffered during Tottenham’s League Cup defeat to Manchester City.assuring fans that he would “be back soon.”

The 23-year-old stopped with a suspected hamstring problem as he ran back to take on City striker Savigno at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium shortly afterwards. Timo Werner opened an account.

Udogi’s fate came on as a substitute for Van de Ven before Radu Dragusin switched to central midfield and the Dutch defender was clearly in some discomfort as he left the north London pitch in tears.

‘He felt something in his hamstring,’ Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou spoke about Van de Ven’s injury after the victory.

“It’s too early to predict how long he’ll be out, but he definitely felt something and we’ll see how he feels.”

Pape Sarr’s long-range strike doubled Tottenham’s lead ten minutes after Van de Ven’s replacement and the hosts held firm on their place in the quarter-finals after Matheus Nunez the halftime deficit was reduced.

However, the sight of Van de Ven limping off the field in the early stages took some of the shine away from victory for Spurs as games got thick and fast for Postecoglou’s men.

However, the in-form centre-back – arguably Tottenham’s best player this season – has given fans hope that his injury may not be as serious as initially feared.

“I’ll be back soon,” Van de Ven told his 500,000 Instagram followers this evening.

Spurs have no plans to relax as they face a tough Premier League clash at home to fourth-place Aston Villa this weekend.

Postecoglou’s side have lost two of their last three matches in England’s top flight, defeats at both Crystal Palace and Brighton, and will be desperate to bounce back on Sunday afternoon.

If van de Ven is ruled out of the match, Dragusin will likely come on to replace the Dutchman at the heart of Tottenham’s defense alongside Christian Romero.

Club captain Son Heung-min has not featured in Spurs’ last three matches but Postecoglou is hopeful the South Korean international will be fit to feature against Villa.

“Sonny is almost fit but we’ll probably be pushing for the weekend from our point of view and we’re quite confident he’ll be right,” he told reporters before Tottenham knocked City out of the League Cup .

The Tottenham manager is also confident that both Werner and Romero will be fit and ready to face Villa, despite the pair not playing the full 90 minutes against City.

“Timo hasn’t played much so I felt it was hopefully more fatigue than anything else,” he said.

“Christian said he felt fine, but my gut told me there was no point in taking the risk because we have Ben (Davis) who can come on.”
