Davenport man accused of sexually assaulting a child while filming the act

A 44-year-old Davenport man is facing child sexual abuse charges after he allegedly performed a sex act on a 12-year-old child and videotaped the act, police said.

Alexander Dewey Givens is charged in Scott County District Court with one count of second-degree sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Each charge is a Class B felony under Iowa law and is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Givens is also charged with three counts of possession of an image of a minor in the commission of a criminal sexual act. Each of these charges is a Class D charge and carries a prison sentence of five years.

According to an arrest affidavit, police received a report of a sexual assault at the Relax Inn, 6310 N. Brady St.

According to the affidavit, a 1-minute, 54-second video was found on a device belonging to Givens that showed the child and Givens performing a sex act in the hotel room.

The video was sent to the child and then several text messages were sent and received. In one of the texts, Givens asks the child to erase the video.

During the investigation, officers found two more videos on Givens’ device of the same child engaging in sexual acts with another person. There were also two nude photographs of the victim.

On an account belonging to Givens, police found several other videos showing the child alone and undressed, according to the affidavit.

Givens was arrested Wednesday.

During an initial appearance on the charges Thursday in Scott County District Court, Judge Cynthia Taylor set a preliminary hearing in the case for Nov. 8.

Givens was being held Thursday in the Scott County Jail on $100,000 bail, set by Taylor.
