Trick or treat forecast: A cold front will move into northwest Alabama this evening. Showers and a few thunderstorms will likely move over western and northwestern Alabama between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, so keep an eye on the radar for those heading out for treats.

The rest of Central Alabama will be mostly cloudy, mild and windy. Temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 70s.

The cold front will slowly move into Central Alabama this evening and stall. Areas primarily along and north of I-20 will see isolated showers and thunderstorms. Parts of northwest Alabama could see more than 1 inch of rain. Lows will be in the mid 60s.

The cold front over North Alabama will stall and weaken on Friday. It will be mostly cloudy with some rain. Areas along and north of I-20, including Birmingham, may see some light rain. Areas south of I-20 will remain dry. Unfortunately, Central Alabama will not receive much-needed rain and drought conditions will worsen. It will be a little cooler, with a high near 80.

Weekend forecast: High pressure will move north of Alabama this weekend. Southerly winds will make it warmer and there will be plenty of sunshine. We will have near record high temperatures in the lower 80s. The all-time high on Saturday was 85 in 2003, and the all-time high on Sunday was 84 in 2016.

Outlook for next week: The week will start off dry and unseasonably warm as high pressure builds northeast of Alabama. Possible record highs are expected in the mid-80s. A cold front will move toward Alabama from the northwest on Wednesday with a few showers and near-record highs in the low 80s. The front will move through Central Alabama on Thursday with scattered showers and near-record levels in the low 80s. We will dry out on Friday with highs still in the 80s.
