Stock market today: Dow fell 375 points, major US indices ended October in the red

U.S. stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the Dow and S&P 500 recording their first monthly losses since April as technology stocks sold off sharply and bond yields remained high.

The Nasdaq fell 2.8% on Thursday, dragging the other two major indexes lower.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 378.08 points, or 0.9%, to close at 41,763.46.

The S&P 500 fell 108.22 points, or 1.9%, to close at 5,705.45.

The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 512.78 points, or 2.8%, to close at 18,095.15.

The Dow and S&P 500 lost 1.3% and 1%, respectively, recording their first monthly losses since April, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

The Nasdaq recorded its first monthly decline since July, falling 0.5% in October.
