OpenAI has introduced a new feature called ChatGPT Search to compete with Google.

When opening the app, users will see the standard ChatGPT Message text box with a new globe icon for searching. OpenAI says the AI will decide to browse the network “based on what you asked”; however, the new button is designed to force you to search for a model online.

At the heart of this new ChatGPT search feature is the company’s interest in providing the “best answers” quickly.

The post says users can type in ChatGPT using “natural and conversational” speech. After asking a question, the AI will respond with information obtained from other websites. OpenAI emphasizes its partnerships with news and data providers to ensure ChatGPT’s responses include “up-to-date information.”

ChatGPT Search also combines data and information provided by partners through third-party search engines and a “fine-tuned” option GPT-4o.

OpenAI says its ChatGPT search offers a button at the bottom of the response that says “Sources.” Initially, the pill-shaped icon will display several icons from the sources it received the information from. When you click this button, a sidebar will appear with website names and article titles.

Users can click on them to learn more and check the actual AI model.

In addition, OpenAI states that users can ask additional questions after ChatGPT provides an answer. The post claims that the AI will use the “full context” of what you said to find the “best answer.”

ChatGPT Search provides the answer to the question, but also displays its sources for fact checking.
