Southend Water Summit to address quality issues and risks

Alaba, MP for Southend East and Rochford, and Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West and Leigh, said they believed clean water was a “fundamental right”.

They added that they are “fighting to remove sewage from our estuary.”

“We must stop polluting the environment and cannot continue to put our health, our habitat and the happiness of our residents and valued tourists at risk,” they said in a joint statement ahead of the summit.

The summit will also address storm spill issues and look at investment plans and flood risks.

The Environment Agency will be in attendance, as will Southend Borough Council, Leigh Borough Council, Surfers Against Sewage and other groups.
