Rivada and Colt partner to announce ‘unique’ satellite communications in Earth orbit

Colt Technology Services is partnering with Rivada Space Networks to deliver what it says will be a unique next-generation Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications network with the resilience and performance to drive digital innovation and transformation.

Low latency Rivada point-to-point network of 600 LEO satellitescalled Outernet, combines inter-satellite laser communications with embedded data processing that provides routing and switching capabilities to create an optical mesh network in space.

It is said that he is able to combine speed fiber With the advent of satellites, global data constellation will use laser links between satellites to create an ultra-secure, low-latency network.

Both companies said this approach to the orbital network, where data remains in space from source to destination, creates pole-to-pole coverage while delivering end-to-end latencies lower than terrestrial fiber over similar long distances.

By routing traffic across a physically separated network, it provides a layer of protection for any organization that needs to securely exchange data between widely distributed sites. The network is planned to be launched in 2025, and service provision is planned to begin in 2026.

The partnership will enable Colt to leverage Rivada’s Outernet to deliver the resiliency of high-quality voice, video and data services, as well as a new level of cybersecurity for businesses that require secure infrastructure, such as banking and financial services.

Outernet connectivity is designed to improve network performance and enable true digital transformation and new business opportunities through multi-Gigabit bi-directional performance coupled with global reach.

According to Colt, growing enterprise demand to securely and quickly move large amounts of data around the world is putting existing digital infrastructure under more pressure than ever, forcing organizations to look to new network technologies.

“Our goal is to provide flexible, secure and high-performance solutions based on our resilient and resilient digital infrastructure with … Colt customer experience,” said Buddy Bayer, chief operating officer of Colt Technology Services. “The opportunity for this global B2B access solution is enormous and we are incredibly excited about this partnership.”

Rivada Space Networks CEO Declan Ganley said: “We are thrilled to be working with a dynamic company like Colt Technology Services to develop space solutions to enable digital transformation.

“In the digital economy, security and robustness of communications are becoming increasingly important,” he said. “The Outernet allows satellites to move beyond their traditional gap-filler role and, as a fully interconnected orbital network providing highly secure connectivity anywhere on the planet, is quickly becoming the infrastructure of choice for secure data communications.”
