Latest flood in Spain: residents ordered to “prepare for further victims”; former Valencia footballer killed

Cleaning is being done in earnest in Carlete.

On Tuesday, the Magro River flowed past the city, flooding nearby streets.

The force of the water was so strong that the bridge buckled, bending some of its concrete supports like branches.

Sections of the sidewalk at both ends are gone, washed away by the flood.

The main road along the river was still flooded when the volunteer teams arrived this morning.

But after several hours of hard work with pumps and brooms, they were able to start clearing it out.

A similar scene can be seen across the city, with excavators and forklifts clearing away trash.

Despite the blow this community has suffered, it is determined to rebuild.
