Two rescued from house fire in Penbrook Meadows

Firefighters had to rescue residents from a burning house in Penbrook Meadows after one of the evacuees climbed out of an upstairs window and became stuck on the roof.

The Calgary Fire Department was called to a home in the townhome complex on Pensville Close SE around 11:25 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from a second-floor window of the home and one of the occupants trapped on the roof.

A fifth person was trapped in the basement, according to three other people who had already escaped the burning house.

“Firefighters immediately set up a ladder and rescued the occupant from the roof while also entering and helping the occupant out of the basement,” CFD said in a press release.

Once the occupants were safe, crews began aggressively battling the fire, bringing it under control while other firefighters searched the rest of the home for anyone else.

Emergency services assessed three occupants of the home for smoke inhalation, and one of the victims was taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
