Chris Rock will direct and star in Hollywood drama Misty Greene

Chris Rock is set to direct and star in Hazy Green, described as a contemporary tale of Hollywood excess and inequality.

Based on Rock’s original screenplay, Misty Green tells the story of Misty, an undeniably talented actress whose vices derail attempts to revive her career. Her best opportunity in years comes in the form of Jordan (The Rock), a film director with the perfect role for her – if not for their contentious past. Additional casting is underway.

Rock, veteran executive and former head of Fox Peter Rice (“Saturday Night,” “28 Years Later”) will produce the film along with James Lopez. Film studios MACRO and Tommy Oliver for Confluential Films. Executive producers are Charles D. King of MACRO Film Studios and Cody Elaine Oliver of Confluential Films. Neon International will represent foreign rights and will present them at AFM next week, while CAA Media Finance will represent domestic rights.

Rock was last seen on the big screen in last year’s Rustin, and his previous directorial work was the critically acclaimed ensemble comedy Top 5, which he also starred in. He was recently invited to helm the American remake of the Oscar-winning Danish drama Another Round based on Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way. Rock is also the executive producer and narrator of Everybody Still Hates Chris, a reimagined animated version of his beloved autobiographical family comedy. “Everyone hates Chris.”

Rock is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman.

Neon International’s slate currently includes Michael Covino’s Splitsville starring Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona; “The Guardian” by Osgood Perkins; Steven Soderbergh’s Presence, which had its world premiere at Sundance; “Acute Angle,” directed by Jason Buxton and starring Ben Foster and Cobie Smulders; and They Follow, the long-awaited sequel to David Robert Mitchell’s modern horror classic It Follows, starring Maika Monroe.
