Giants cornerback plummets in QB Power rankings

Giants cornerback plummets in QB Power rankings

While the New York Giants have some positives, they continue to struggle with positive production from their quarterback Daniel Jones, who continues to struggle to produce when it matters most.

So it’s no surprise that CBS Sports Latest 2024 QB RankingsJones is now considered one of the worst defenders in the league (29th out of 32 starters).

On Monday night against Pittsburgh, Jones faced one of the league’s best defenses. While he was under more pressure, Jones, who in the 26–18 loss, completed 24 of his 38 passes with no touchdowns and one interception.

He fell short of a chance to tie the game late in the game when he failed to call the right defense during a strip sack/fumble recovery by TJ Watt and then unsuccessfully intercepted a pass intended for running back Devin. Singletary completely missed an open Theo Johnson in center field to end the game.

The Giants are desperate for some positive quarterback play as fans and the organization seem to be losing patience. The Giants currently sit in last place in the NFC East division at midseason.

The Giants have excellent core pieces, but they rank 27th in total offense and continue to struggle with red zone scoring, among other things.

The offensive struggles have led to more calls for the Giants to bench Jones and move forward with backup Drew Lock or Tommy Devito to bring new energy and life to this offense.

While it’s not entirely Jones’ fault, his performance didn’t reflect the $160 million contract extension he received in 2023.

The Giants have a tough decision to make at this point in the season. They’re not too far away from getting back into the race for a potential wild card spot, but it’s going to take a lot for that to happen. The consolation if they continue to lose is that they will improve their draft position, which will help them plan for the future.

The Giants should replace Jones as they move forward for a better future. They don’t have much to achieve and are desperate for new energy surrounding this young team. They would also eliminate the threat that Jones would have a $23 million injury guarantee if he were to get injured.

Last season, when Jones and veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor suffered injuries that landed them on IR, Tommy Devito stepped up and brought new hope to MetLife Stadium. Devito threw for 1,010 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions, while the Giants offense played with more energy and had more success.

However, head coach Brian Daboll remains confident Jones will be the starter, at least for now. However, it’s fair to wonder how long he’ll stick with the quarterback if the losses continue, as the Giants have a much more talented team than their record suggests.
