NFL Reportedly Investigating Nick Bosa After 49ers DE Fails Postgame Interview While Wearing MAGA Cap (Video)

Nick Bosa could face financial consequences for wearing a MAGA cap on the field after last Sunday’s game.

After the San Francisco 49ers’ win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the star quarterback interrupted his postgame interview with quarterback Brock Purdy and pointed to a white and gold hat emblazoned with the words “Make America Great Again.” The message was not difficult to interpret.

Bosa declined to elaborate on his statement when speaking to reporters, saying only: “I’m not going to say too much about it, but I think it’s an important point.”

Five days later Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports And Mark Maske of the Washington Post both reported that the NFL was reviewing Bosa’s appearance for potential discipline. Removal from office is not being discussed, but he could face a fine and a decision won’t be made until the end of next week (read: after all the votes have been cast in the 2024 presidential election).

Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8 of the NFL Rulebook. specifically prohibits players from wearing equipment with any political message:

“The League will not authorize any club or player to wear, display or otherwise communicate messages through helmet decals, armbands, jersey patches, mouthpieces or other items affixed to playing uniforms or equipment that relate to political activity or causes, other non-football events, causes or campaigns or charitable causes or campaigns.”

As you can imagine, a MAGA hat fits this definition.

Bosa has been one of former President Donald Trump’s most visible supporters within the NFL ranks for years and likely won’t be too worried about the fine. He currently playing on a five-year, $170 million contract..

A four-time Pro Bowler in five seasons since being taken second overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, Bosa has recorded 28 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and an interception in eight games this season.
