OpenAI has partnered with several news organizations to license their reporting to help populate ChatGPT’s results. He also highlighted that previously users had to go to an external search engine to get relevant links, which is no longer necessary.

“ChatGPT Search promises to better highlight and attribute information from trusted news sources, benefiting audiences while expanding the reach of publishers like us who produce premium journalism,” said Pam Wasserstein, president of Vox Media, in a blog post.

News partners include Associated Press, Axel Springer, Condé Nast, Dotdash Meredith, Financial Times, GEDI, Hearst, Le Monde, News Corp, Prisa (El País), Reuters, The Atlantic, Time and Vox Media. It’s up to other news publishers whether they want to have OpenAI robots crawl their sites for information. When ChatGPT launched in late 2022, it immediately gained widespread popularity and gave people an alternative to Google search. Since then, the situation in online search has changed dramatically: Google and Microsoft will soon offer their own search engines based on artificial intelligence and chatbots. For example, Google AI reviews sit on top of Google search and answer people’s questions with AI-generated answers. Other players such as Confusionrelied on online search using artificial intelligence from the very beginning. The additional competition caused Google’s search market share to fall worldwide. from 90% to 87%.
