Bill Maher exposes media ‘lies’ over Trump’s comment about Liz Cheney

Bill Maher angry critics blaming the former president Donald Trump call for “execution” for Liz Cheneytelling the media that “you don’t have to make me dislike Donald Trump any more than I already do.”

On Friday Real timeMaher took a rare moment to defend Trump against the “lie” that he called for Cheney’s execution. Trump explained after facing criticism from critics that he emphasized that Cheney was a “war hawk” when he spoke to Tucker Carlson This week.

Trump said:

“Let’s put her where she’s standing with a rifle and shooting nine barrels at her, okay? Let’s see how she feels about this, well, with guns pointed at her face. You know, they’re all military hawks when they sit in Washington in a nice building and say, “Gee, let’s send 10,000 troops straight into the enemy’s jaws.”

But she is a stupid person, and I had meetings with many people, and she always wanted to fight with people. So, whether it was her, whether it was… Dick Cheney surprised me a little bit. I didn’t know him at all. Basically, I only had one or two phone calls, and it was just a call saying, “Thank you so much for doing this for Scooter Libby, it was great.”

Democrats love James Carville have accused Trump called for the killing of Cheney, an outspoken Trump critic, but Maher joined others in defending Trump, saying the former president was making a point that was once made by “hippies.” The comedian accused the media of lying about Trump’s comments, which he believes is counterproductive.

“Today I woke up to a headline that Trump called for Liz Cheney to be shot. And that’s what I really don’t like about the media. No, he didn’t. You don’t have to make me dislike Donald Trump any more than I already do,” Maher said.

The Real Time host did criticize Trump for his speaking style, including calling Cheney “stupid.”

“Of course, he expresses himself terribly. He has to add that she’s a stupid person because he’s an idiot,” Maher said.

“Well, Trump knows what it’s really like from Vietnam,” the Rep. said. Jamie Ruskin (D-MD) intervened.

Maher stuck to his original point.

“But to be clear, this is what the hippies always said. This is what the peacemakers have always said. This is the song Fortunate Son. It’s like, you know what, it’s very easy to sit in your house and send young people to die because of Ukraine, because I don’t know, the war doesn’t seem to be moving in the right direction. But don’t lie to me. I don’t like Donald Trump,” he said. “Don’t lie to me and say he wants her to face the firing squad. He was saying something that, by the way, if it came out of his mouth, something that wasn’t stupid, again, would have sounded like something hippies would say.”

Raskin agreed with Maher that some were misrepresenting Trump’s factual statement.

“I agree with you about the lying. It’s funny, absurd and counterproductive, but when has Donald Trump ever criticized a war hawk the way hippies have? Was this in Vietnam? He refused to go to Vietnam, but he did not criticize that war or the war in Iraq,” Raskin said.

“Jamie, I’m not defending Trump,” Maher shot back. “I’m just saying: don’t lie to me.”
