Bengals looking for defensive help to save season: report

Just a few days before NFL trade deadline, we are in for some surprises. One of them could be the Cincinnati Bengals seeking help at the deadline.

According to NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic.Cincinnati is hoping to bring in some help on defense to salvage its season. The Bengals are not typically deadline players, so this is definitely a shock.

“A team that has only acquired two players via trade in 52 years is going to start shopping. It’s not the Bengals’ style, but they have strong faith in this team and are committed to at least getting back to the AFC. Despite being 3-5, Cincinnati was scrambling for a defensive lineman and defensive lineman to get help from defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.”

Cincinnati has had a rough start to the year with a 3-5 record. But the Bengals have faith in their roster if they want to make the postseason.

With star quarterback Joe Burrow under center, Cincinnati believes they can continue to run if they manage to make the playoffs. This year they have shown that they are a strong team but haven’t been able to put it all together consistently.

The defense has become a real problem, but it looks like Cincinnati is trying to turn things around. Russini mentions New York Giants edge rusher Azeez Ojulari as an option for Bengals

“It is known around the league that the New York Giants, who are in last place in the NFC East, are acquiring young edge rusher Azeez Ojulari. Teams eyeing the 24-year-old include the Falcons, Cardinals and Bengals. “

Acquiring a young player like Ojulari could give the Bengals defense a boost. He recorded 24 tackles and six sacks for the year.

The Bengals don’t have many good options on their roster that can get to quarterback other than Trey Hendrickson. Adding someone like Ojulari could do wonders for this defense and help defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo a lot.

It remains to be seen whether the Bengals will make any trade additions as history has shown us they likely won’t. But if Burrow leads the way, perhaps Cincinnati will change the way it has done things in the past.
