Baldur’s Gate 3 saving fails due to Skyrim level mod overflow? Larian made a video especially for you

Baldur’s Gate 3 now has official mod support, which encourages players download 50 million mods and 10,000 changing Withers’ name to Bone Daddy. But just in case you’ve crashed your Baldur’s Gate 3 save with enough mods to make a seasoned Skyrim player blush, developer Larian Studios has made the perfect video for you.

“We’ve heard from many of you about how you’re now venturing into the big, wonderful world of modding,” the video explains. “You might be thinking to yourself, “How does this magic work? What’s the difference between mods for PC and console? Or maybe, ‘How can I get this character’s fantastic hair?'”

The video below shows all this and more, after noting that “things can get a little weird… We’re talking about things like games saving that won’t load, potential crashes, UI glitches, missing textures faces and, yes, the occasional venture into the realm of naked men when creating characters.” You should also be aware that mods are often considered cheating, so you shouldn’t count on getting achievements or trophies from a modified save file.

If things get too overwhelming – or if those naked men bother you – then Larian recommends heading “to the in-game mod manager” to “disable all your mods.” Load the game without any mods and if the game runs smoothly then it is time to go through the uninstall process. Enable them one by one until you find the mod causing problems, and then you can leave the modder a friendly warning. If all else fails, you can also contact Larian Studio’s support team, which thankfully employs real people to help, not a robotic voice.

“The more mods you download, the longer your game will take to launch,” the video continues. “This is especially true on consoles since mods use memory and each platform handles it differently.” Larian also highlights a few key differences between modding on PC and console. “For example, once you’ve started a campaign with mods on console, you’re locked out and can’t remove mods mid-game… to keep things running smoothly, we suggest installing only the mods you actually want to use. and delete the ones you’re done with.”
