Over the past week, troops have killed at least 187 terrorists, detained 262 suspects and rescued 147 kidnapped hostages in various operations across the country over the past week, according to Defense Headquarters.

Director of Media Relations, Ministry of Defense, Major General. Edward Buba stated this while giving an update on the operations of the military in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Buba said the troops also recovered 205 assorted weapons and 5,241 pieces of ammunition, including two G3 rifles, two PKT pistols, 89 AK47 rifles, 22 factory rifles, 22 Danish pistols, two FN rifles and two pistols.

The others, he said, are two factory-made revolver pistols, 27 locally made pistols, 19 pump-action shotguns, two pump-action shotguns, one DICON pistol, eight double-barreled pistols, one Barreta pistol and 32 magazines.

“The others are 1,862 rounds of 7.62mm special caliber, 1,244 rounds of 7.62mm NATO caliber, 131 rounds of 7.62x54mm caliber, 959 rounds of 7.62x39mm caliber and 352 rounds of 9mm caliber.

“Items recovered also include 51 7.62x51mm ball cartridges, 662 live rounds, two Baofeng radios, six vehicles, 29 motorcycles, 55 mobile phones and other items,” he said.

In the northeast, Buba said, Operation Hadin Kay troops neutralized 103 terrorists, detained 64 suspects and rescued 15 kidnapped hostages after discovering a weapons cache.

According to him, between October 23 and October 29, a total of 19 terrorists, including three adult men, six adult women and 10 children, surrendered to the troops in the theater of operations.

Buba said that in the North Central region, troops from Operation Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke neutralized 18 violent extremists, arrested 52 people and rescued 40 kidnapped hostages, and discovered a weapons cache.

In the northwest, Operation Hadarin Daji troops neutralized 51 terrorists, detained 55 suspects and rescued 81 kidnapped hostages, and discovered a large weapons cache, he said.

According to him, on October 20, an air unit carried out an aerial interception of the enclave of terrorist leader Alhaji Layi in Giwa Local Government Area of ​​Kaduna State, killing several terrorists and destroying their structures.

He said Operation Whirl Punch teams detained 32 suspects and released three kidnapped hostages with the recovery of a cache of weapons.
