In the final tune-up ahead of next weekend’s MIAA Division round, some of the Bay State’s top talent scored dominant victories Saturday at the MSTCA Frank Mooney Invitational in Wrentham.

With temperatures in the mid-50s and a flat course at the Wrentham Development Center, personal records were broken throughout the day.

Headlining the day was the Small School Junior/Senior Girls Race, in which Whitinsville Christian star Emily Flagg ran the fastest 5K distance in Massachusetts this season in an incredible 17 minutes, 21.92 seconds.

The time set a 25-second personal best for Flagg, who is undefeated in seven invitational races this season and will be the favorite in the Division 2 state championship race in two weeks.

Behind Flagg in the loaded field were Cameron Davis of Oxford (17:43.82), who set a 10-second personal best in second place, and defending Division II champion Maggie Couchman of Holliston (17:49.17), who finished third. .

The junior and senior girls’ races ended with dominant individual victories, with Central Catholic’s Madeleine Courtemanche taking a 68-second win (18:15.74) in the senior event and Westford’s Emily Wedlake (18:31.24) winning by a 50 points. seconds in the junior race.

Newton South was the only Division I boys’ opponent to field a full starting lineup on Saturday, with their top five runners finishing in the top seven in the big school boys’ high school race.

The Lions were led by Thomas Flaig’s first-place finish (15:27.20) and Alex Freidman’s second-place finish (15:29.74), both personal bests and times in the top 20 in Massachusetts this season.

The Big School Junior Boys race featured a quality duel between winner Michael Upton of Catholic Memorial (15:45.05) and runner-up Jason Provost of Beverly (15:49.91), both setting personal bests and finishing ahead of their opponents by 30 seconds. the third-place finisher in the race was Bridgewater-Raynham’s Brian Peters (16:21.66).

While the freshman race was only 3K, Central Catholic standout Kayla Breslin still got it done with a 27-second win (10:43.70) in the Big School girls’ race—third fastest in the girls 3K in the state. this season. .
