Carol Vorderman’s son Cameron couldn’t help but playfully poke fun at his mum’s maths skills during the debut episode of Romesh Ranganathan’s new quiz show Parents’ Night Out.

A new quiz will see celebrities team up with their relatives as they have to guess how many common questions their adult children or parents get right in order to win money for charity. The game show is being watched by Romesh’s 46-year-old mother Shanti.

Saturday’s line-up included Carole, 63, and her son Cameron, Alison Hammond along with her son Aidan and Iain Stirling, accompanied by his mother Alison, the leading star.

One of the questions on Saturday night was to list relationship statuses according to Facebook. However, Carol was confused by the question: “Well, I don’t do Facebook. I mean, how many relationship statuses can you really have, you’re married, you’re single,” to which an alarm suddenly sounded in the studio and a red light flashed on the screen.

Host Romesh quickly chimed in: “Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, okay. Carol, the point of the game is not to suddenly start shouting answers,” reports Mirror.

“Carol, I’m sorry, but we’ll have to deduct £200 from your total and exclude these answers from the round.”

Confused, Carol responded, “You’re deducting money!” to which Alison explained: “Yes, 200 pounds!” prompting Carol to joke: “We’ll have nothing left!”

Carole’s son Cameron was quick to cheekily brush off his math whiz mother and joked: “Yes, mom, that’s how numbers work!” to which Romesh covered his mouth with his hand, and the audience began to laugh.

On Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to react to the moment, with one person saying: “I like Carol Vorderman’s son. He has a great sense of humor. #ParentsEvening,” another account wrote, “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Carol, what are you doing??? #ParentsEvening,” while another viewer added, “Love Romesh Ranganathan’s #ParentsEvening, he’s so funny.”

It comes as Vanessa Feltz is set to take over Carol’s Sunday slot on LBC full-time. Former Countdown star Carole said she would not continue her radio show last month due to “burnout” from the seven-day work week.

Vanessa, 62, joined LBC in May and hosts the Saturday afternoon show, where she offers her opinion, analysis and deep dive into what matters to the British public.

She said: “I can’t wait to see her this weekend to listen to her. I look forward to hosting Britain’s biggest and most energetic conversation with my wonderful LBC listeners every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.”

Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Night continues on Saturday evenings on ITV and ITV X.
