Trump will save…: Elon Musk on the euthanasia of social media star Peanut the squirrel

After the internet sensation Peanut the squirrel was kidnapped from her owner’s house and euthanized. government officials, tech giant Elon Musk used his X account to express outrage. self-proclaimed “dark gothic MAGA” criticized the authorities and said that Donald Trump would “save the squirrels.”

Musk, in a series of posts on X, criticized the government for what he called “overreach” in the Peanut squirrel case.

“The government kidnapped an orphan squirrel and executed it,” Musk wrote, condemning what he sees as unnecessary interference.

“The government should leave people and their animals alone,” he added.

The tech billionaire spent much of the day commenting on the issue, comparing it to the revenge-driven plot of the John Wick films.

“John Wick just wanted peace, but then (they) killed his innocent, beloved dog,” Musk wrote, drawing a parallel between the loss of the fictional character and the fate of the squirrel.

The death of Peanut the Squirrel quickly became a rallying point for former President Trump’s supporters on X, where they shared AI-generated memes of the critter donning MAGA hats, aiming an AR-15 and sitting on Trump’s shoulder.

“Reminder: Kamala’s group executed a cute pet squirrel named Peanut this week because they’re crazy. Vote for Trump to avenge Peanuts!” Conservative filmmaker Robbie Starbuck posted a message along with one of the AI images.

“Serious note: If Trump includes a Peanut with a picture of RIP behind his back in his speech, this race will officially be over. We want justice for Peanut!,” he added.

Many users criticized what they saw as an abuse of power, arguing that unchecked power, especially in states like New York, is a growing concern.

Meanwhile, the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) said they launched an investigation after receiving information about the “potentially unsafe keeping of wild animals that may carry rabies and the illegal keeping of wild animals as pets.”

“On October 30, DEC seized a raccoon and a squirrel that were living with people, creating a potential risk of human exposure to rabies. In addition, a squirrel bit a person involved in the investigation. Both animals were euthanized to test for rabies,” the agency said in a statement, according to CBS News New York.
