The video, shot at the boys’ hostel at IIT Dhanbad, shows students launching a plastic trash can into the sky using fireworks, giving a unique, ambitious touch to Diwali celebrations. The video went viral on social media.

In the video, a group of students gathered in a dorm courtyard and created a makeshift “rocket launcher” with a firecracker placed under an overturned trash can.

The crowd waits with bated breath, and after a short time, the trash can flies up to the fourth floor with a loud crash to the applause of the students.

The video, which was shared by a user on Instagram, has so far received over six million likes and 103 million views.

Social media users filled the comments with their thoughts on the video. A user said: “Who needs real rockets when you have IIT students with a dustbin and a firecracker?” Another user added: “Next stop NASA apps?”

One user said, “Only at IIT will Diwali be a science experiment!” Many found it interesting, with one user saying, “This takes me back to the days of wild Diwali nights in hostels,” while another added, “Imagine the principal’s reaction to this launch!”

However, not everyone was delighted. Several comments raised safety concerns, with one viewer remarking: “I guess this is one way to test the safety protocols!”
