Information about the new LEGO Innovation Campus

Lego has officially begun construction on its new innovation campus in Billund, Denmark, a facility that aims to reimagine creative collaboration and sustainability in the brand’s product design. CEO Niels B. Christiansen and Chief Product and Marketing Officer Julia Goldin led the groundbreaking event for the 54,000-square-foot campus, which will be home to 1,700 employees, including more than 600 designers.

This state-of-the-art facility is part of the LEGO Group’s commitment to investing in global workspaces and is designed to stimulate creativity while supporting ambitious sustainability goals. The innovation campus, which will open in 2027, will be a central hub for the product marketing, development, gaming and quality teams.

The campus, designed by CEBRA Architects, highlights LEGO’s core values. During the 18-month consultation process, employees actively participated in the design using LEGO bricks, ensuring a collaborative approach to creating their workspace. The result is a modular structure consisting of six overlapping modules up to four storeys high, green spaces and maximum natural light. A central PlayWay connects the various “neighborhoods”, encouraging interaction between teams.

In keeping with LEGO’s commitment to sustainability, the building’s structure is made entirely from FSC-certified wood to LEED Platinum standards. This choice significantly reduces initial carbon emissions while prioritizing energy efficiency, biodiversity and water conservation.

Julia Goldin said the Innovation Campus will honor LEGO modularity, encouraging creativity and inclusivity in an engaging environment. “This space will serve as a global center of design excellence, allowing us to innovate across all aspects of LEGO – from revolutionary physical products to immersive digital experiences.”
