Federico Chiesa faces ‘almost impossible’ situation at Liverpool due to shock loan I

New Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes’s first transfer window was described as “opportunistic” and the signing of Federico Chiesa was just that, taking many by surprise.

After helping Italy win the European Championship in 2021, the 27-year-old appears to have become one of the world’s best players, with some suggesting he is worth around €100 million.

However, a serious knee injury halted his progress and despite trying his best to return to fitness, he has yet to regain his previous form.

So it was something of a shock when Hughes and new head coach Arne Slot decided to make a move for the player in the summer, paying just €12 million to Juventus as Chiesa entered the final year of his contract.

Initial excitement over Chiesa’s signing subsided after he picked up an injury after playing just 78 minutes for the Reds and speaking after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Brighton, Slot suggested he would not return before the end of the international break .

Chiesa’s slow progress at his new club has people speculating about what the forward’s future might hold. Daniele Longo from Calciomercato (via Sports Witness), revealing that the Italy international would seek clarification from Slott on what could be “almost impossible” for him to climb the ranks at Anfield in the future.

Longo also suggests a loan return to Italy is a “shocking possibility” with both Como and Milan interested in him, although his salary could prove to be a stumbling block.

It seems too early to write off Chiesa at Liverpool. The club’s management have always been aware that it may take some time to warm him up to Premier League football, so it is unlikely that a move will be possible anytime soon.
