Shaan on KK

In an interview, he was asked about the consistency of his and KK’s voice, Shaan said, “QC even more. I felt quite comfortable doing “film” singing, keeping the character’s personality in mind and adding flair to my performance. K.K. has always maintained a strong filter of honesty in his singing style. Perhaps the brightness wasn’t that great. Of course, he sang for Emraan Hashmi and wrote a couple of songs for Shah Rukh Khan, but not at this level. And all because there was no “cinematography” in his singing. And I would tell him, “KK, put more heroism in your voice,” and he would say, “Bro, I’m fine the way I am.”

In the same interview Shaan shared that he thinks honesty has benefited K.K. He added: “The next generation of composers wanted K.K. sang for them more than we did,” he said. When asked why, Shaan replied: “Because they were close to this singing; they didn’t think it was too flashy or over the top. There was some rawness in his voice, some honesty, some authenticity… They wanted that kind of simple singing.”
