Love Drake or hate Drake, you’ll always remember “Music City Miracle” May – and he looks like the real deal.

Love Drake or hate Drake, you’ll always remember “Music City Miracle” May – and he looks like the real deal.

With little concern for his personal safety, May rushed the ball eight times for 95 yards, mostly avoiding safety slides, and came within 5 yards of becoming the first Patriots quarterback in 48 years to rush for 100 yards (Steve Grogan, 1976 ). .

I love Drake!

He completed 29 of 41 passes for 206 yards and orchestrated two second-half touchdowns.

I love Drake!

He fumbled twice (one for loss) and was intercepted twice.

I hate Drake!

Most memorably, May fought for nearly a full 12 seconds on the final regulation play and found Rhamondre Stevenson in the end zone for a touchdown pass that allowed the Pats to send the game into overtime.

I love Drake!

It was a memorable moment in May’s young career, and if the game had been broadcast on NESN, Dave O’Brien and Tom Caron would have taken the opportunity to tell the audience that the Pats were making a decisive bid for a third wild card.

Alas, the Patriots didn’t win, and your 2-7 football team won’t be in the postseason. Tennessee won it in overtime 20-17, deciding the situation when May skied and attempted a long bomb on first-and-10 from his own 41 and was intercepted the second time by Amani (Not So Fair) Hooker.

I hate Drake!

“I made some bad decisions, especially towards the end,” May, 22, said. “I have to get better.”

“He’s going to learn from his mistakes and get better from it,” New England rookie coach Jerod Mayo said.

Half the Patriot Nation came to this truly red state to see May with the ball and kick it around the yard. The New England QB was hit in the head by Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood in the first quarter last week and wasn’t there to see Jacoby Brissett lead the Pats to the winning touchdown in Foxboro.

He failed to get a touchdown on the board in the first half. He was picked by Hooker early in the second quarter when he made a pass up the middle while under pressure.

Trailing 7-3 at intermission, May roared out of the locker room, completing 6 of 6 passes and running when needed for a 70-yard touchdown in 7:21. New England took its first lead of the day when Stevenson took the lead.

With the score tied at 10-10 and disaster struck with seven minutes left, May stepped back, looked to her left and got nothing. As he looked and ran to his right, Titans linebacker Arden Key came up behind him and knocked the ball out of May’s right hand. The bouncing ball was collected by Tennessee tackle Jeffrey Simmons at the New England 26.

About 2:26 later, Mason Rudolph connected with Nick Westbrook-Ihin on a 6-yard pass in the left corner of the end zone and the Pats trailed 17-10.

May was going to be an asshole. . .

But after exchanging punts, he moved the Patriots 50 yards on 11 plays, ending the primary with a Music City Miracle scramble and TD pass to make it 17-16.

This set the stage for Mayo to make an important decision.

Go for an extra point to force overtime, or go for 2 and settle all family matters at once?

Mayo lost consciousness and went for the blow.

“At the time I thought it was the right choice,” the coach said.

“I was trying to catch my breath,” May admitted.

When Patriot Nation looks back on this day and remembers the 2024 Titans game, they won’t talk about May’s ill-conceived burst of desperation to fall into Hooker’s arms to end overtime. They will marvel at May’s mad scramble to save the last game of rules, almost eight seconds after the clock struck zero.

“It shows mental toughness and the ability to play with your feet,” Mayo said. “He gave us a chance to win the game.”

Really. May seems to be the real deal. The Patriots had to do something right when they received the No. 3 overall pick in the draft last spring. Looks like they got it right.

The two Titans who attacked Maye during Tennessee’s critical fourth-quarter score were impressed with the new guy from New England.

“He’s faster than he looks,” Key said.

“I told him after the game he was going to be a great player,” Simmons said.

Maye will bring his skills to Chicago next week, where he will face the top player in the 2024 draft: Bears QB Caleb Williams.

If Bob Kraft has any imagination, he’ll invite his team to stay at The Drake, a regal 104-year-old Chicago hotel overlooking the shores of Lake Michigan.

Everyone loves Drake.
