Ruud van Nistelrooy sent a message to Ruben Amorim after Manchester United’s draw with Chelsea | Football | Sport

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is keen to forge a strong working relationship with the new head coach. Ruben Amorim and promised his support to both the new boss and Manchester United in any required volume.

Since returning to Old Trafford as an assistant under Eric ten HagThe club legend took over as interim boss after Ten Hag was sacked last Monday.

Van Nistelrooy led the team to a thrilling 5-2 win over Leicester in the League Cup on Wednesday and secured a 1-1 draw in the League Cup tie. Premier League face Chelsea on Sunday.

With Sporting’s Amorim taking the England reins on Monday and expected to bring his men there, van Nistelrooy remains hopeful of continuing his role in the coaching staff.

“As I said on Wednesday, I came here to help as an assistant, coach and in this part, as well as as a temporary worker for a short time,” the Dutchman noted.

“Again, I’m willing to help in any capacity, so in that sense I’m open to that future.

“We will all support him and help him achieve Manchester United to where we all want it to be and I think spirit is the most important thing to have. It’s not about individuals, it’s about the club.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know him better. Obviously he did very well in Portugal. He is very young, a talented coach and has performed well in Portugal for a long time.”

“Like I said, I’m looking forward to continuing to help the club (move) forward. This is my main goal.”

Van Nistelrooy has not yet spoken to Amorim but believes the new Portuguese tactician is joining a club that is in a healthier state than what United’s lowest points tally after 10 matches since the 1986/87 season would indicate.

Reflecting on the team’s rocky start, which reflects the turbulence at the start of this season and the change of managers that saw Sir Alex Ferguson replace Ron Atkinson, Van Nistelrooy remains optimistic.

“We are at the beginning of the season and I think playing with the spirit that the players showed on Wednesday and today is the basis for further development,” Van Nistelrooy said. “Through this spirit and fight, football qualities will emerge and be shown.

“I think this is a foundation that can be built on, and then it will be time to significantly improve the rating.”

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed satisfaction with the draw at Old Trafford, but was clearly unhappy that Lisandro Martinez remained on the field.

The Argentine defender almost saw a yellow card turn red in the second half when VAR reviewed his clumsy challenge on the pitch. Cole Palmer.

“To be honest, (the referee) didn’t say anything,” reported Chelsea Boss Maresca. “I just told him that when there is no intention of catching the ball, and you go to the player, to his feet, there is no doubt about the decision.”

“I just said it, but the game was already over. I think it’s pretty clear that it’s red, yes.”
