The grand festival of Chhath Puja will begin in just a few days. People look forward to this four-day festival. This Chhath Puja festival is dedicated to Lord Sun God and Chhati Maya. On this day, women stand in the water, offer arghya to Lord Bhaskar and pray for the well-being of their children and family. Worshiping Lord Sun on the auspicious day of Chhath Puja brings prosperity, progress and well-being to a person. Chhath Puja is known by the names of Surya Shashti, Daala Chhath, Chhath Parv, Daala Puja, etc. So, let us know everything about this important Hindu festival, from the date and muhurat to the rituals and meaning:

Chhath Puja Day 1 – Nahai Khai – November 5, 2024

Chhath Puja Day 2 – Kharna – November 6, 2024
Chhath Puja Day 3 – Evening Arghya – November 7, 2024
Chhath Puja Day 4 – Usha Arghya, Parana – November 8, 2024

Chhath Puja 2024: Muhurat

Chhath Puja Day 1 – Nahai Khai

The great festival of Chhath Puja begins with Nahai Khai. On this day, fasting women wake up in the morning, take a bath, put on new clothes and offer water to the Sun God. After this, they begin their fast by eating satvik food. On the day of Nahai Khai, people eat pumpkin, pumpkin, lentils and rice. Nahai Khai food is prepared in the Satvik style, without garlic and onions. The rest of the family can eat Nahai Khai food only after the fasting person has eaten. On Nahai Khaai day, which is November 5, sunrise will be at 6:36 am and sunset will be at 5:33 pm.

Chhath Puja Day 2 – Kharna

Kharna comes on the second day of Chhath Puja. On this day, fasting women fast the whole day and eat kheer prasad in the evening. After Kharna, fasting women begin a 36-hour waterless fast. The Chhath fast is broken only after offering argya to the rising sun. At the same time, let us tell you that on the day of Kharna, kheer is prepared from jaggery, rice and milk. On this day, a fasting woman or man does not have to consume salt. On the day of Kharna, that is, November 6, sunrise will be at 6:37 am and sunset will be at 5:32 pm.

Chhath Puja, day 3 – Evening Arghya

On the third day of Chhath Puja, Arghya will be offered to the setting sun, which is also known as Sandhya Arghya. Sandhya Arghya will be given on November 7, 2024. On this Chhath Puja day, sunrise will be at 6:38 am and sunset will be at 5:32 pm.

Chhath Puja Day 4 – Usha Arghya

On the fourth and last day of Chhath Puja, Arghya will be offered to the rising sun, which is called Usha Arghya. On this day, fasting women stand in the water at dawn and offer Arghya to the Sun God. After Arghya, fasting women break their Chhath fast on the same day. Usha Arghya will be given on November 8, 2024. On this Chhath Puja Usha Arghya day, sunrise will be at 6:38 am and sunset will be at 5:31 pm.

Chhath Puja 2024: Meaning

Chhath Puja is a religious ceremony in honor of the Sun God, who is believed to represent life, insight and strength. Unlike other Hindu festivals, it celebrates both sunrise and sunset, demonstrating a deep connection with nature. Devotees pray to the Sun and his partner Usha for blessings on the health and longevity of their family, as well as Chhati Maya, which is believed to bestow prosperity on children.
