Oregon was the unanimous No. 1 pick. Associated Press College Football Poll on Sunday, strengthening its bid for the No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff Selection Committee’s first rankings of the season.

The Ducks are ranked No. 1 in the AP Top 25 for the third week in a row and have a unanimous vote for the first time since 21-point road win over Michigan.

Georgia, which received one vote at No. 1 last week, remained at No. 2 after overcoming three vote steals from Carson Beck and pulled away late to beat Florida.

Ohio State moved up one spot to third place thanks to its victory in Pennsylvaniathe Buckeyes’ eighth in the series. No. 4 Miami, who beat Dukeand No. 5 Texas, which was idle, moved up one spot. Penn State, which ranked in the top five in the previous four polls, dropped to sixth place.

The CFP’s expansion to 12 teams this season means top teams losing to other top teams is not a definite disqualifying factor in the race for a national championship. The first CFP rankings of the season will be released Tuesday and will be updated weekly until the bracket is announced Dec. 8.

Tennessee held onto the seventh seed despite struggling in the fourth quarter against three-win Kentucky and Kentucky. victory 28-18.

Indiana moved up five spots to No. 8, its highest ranking since it was No. 7 in 2020 and its best finish in a non-pandemic season since the Hoosiers were No. 4. m number in the 1967 Rose Bowl season. The Hoosiers beat Michigan State 47-10. en route to a 9-0 record for the first time in program history; every win this season has been by double digits.

No. 9 BYU and No. 10 Notre Dame were idle.

SMU wins over Pittsburgh 48–25 gave the Mustangs a boost from 20th to 13th, their biggest move up this week. They haven’t placed this high since they were third on Oct. 1, 1985, two years before the NCAA implemented the “death penalty” that shut down the program in 1987 for egregious rule violations. The school also decided not to field a team in 1988.

Voting points

Clemson and Iowa State, tied for 11th last week, suffered the biggest drops after losing at home. The Tigers dropped eight places to 19th place with a Lost to Louisville 33-21.. The Cyclones dropped six places to 17th place from their Lost 23-22 to Texas Tech. Texas A&M, Kansas State and Pittsburgh each dropped five spots.

Army is ranked 18th and its highest ranking since it was 10th at the midpoint of the 1960 season.

Boise State, ranked No. 12, has its best ranking since it was No. 8 in the final 2011 poll.

Indiana is ahead of Notre Dame for the first time since the final poll in 1979, when the Hoosiers were ranked 19th and the Irish were unranked. In Indiana, schools are separated by 200 miles.

Entry and exit

Vanderbilt wins 17-7 over Auburn. allowed the Commodores to return to the poll at number 24 after a week’s absence.

Louisville, which was ranked every week in September, moved back to No. 25 after its loss to Clemson.
