Prince William appears to be diverting public attention after coming under fire as surprising details were revealed about his income from a private estate.

The Prince of Wales, who launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020 to find practical solutions to mitigating the challenges of climate change, is on his way to Cape Town for the fourth awards ceremony of the 10-year plan.

On Monday, the Earthshot Prize announced it was launching new programs to “inspire and engage the next generation of climate innovators.”

The series of initiatives includes: the Global Climate Accelerator Network, the Climate Youth Leadership Program and Project Slingshot, which will be launched in partnership with National Geographic.

Hannah Jones, CEO of The Earthshot Prize, said the program is “an invitation to young people around the world to reclaim their future and free up their time and talent to fix the planet, one solution at a time.”

She continued: “At the Earthshot Prize, we believe in the power of climate creatives – builders, makers, creators, doers – and we want to encourage every young person to dream of one day becoming an Earthshot winner. Because when they win, we all win.”

The new initiatives come just a day after a report in The Sunday Times revealed “millions” received from William’s private estate, the Duchy of Cornwall and Charles’ Duchy of Lancaster.

While members of the royal family have been criticized for making huge profits from public organizations such as hospitals and charities, the focus has been on the duchies’ failure to meet energy efficiency standards, especially given King Charles and Prince William’s statements about environmental issues.
