Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been ordered to ‘resign with immediate effect’ as fans’ anger has reached optimum levels.

The collective failure of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as batters and leaders during the three-match Test series against New Zealand raised fans’ anger to stratospheric heights. So much so that the pillars of the Indian team, feared and respected by everyone in world cricket, have been ordered to “retire” from Test cricket with immediate effect. Rohit scored 91 runs in three matches at an average of 15.16. His highest score was 52. Kohli, on the other hand, scored just 93 runs in as many matches at an average of 15.50. After getting rid of his 70-run knock in the second innings in Pune, Kohli scored 23 runs in the remaining five innings of the series.

The dismal form of Rohit and Kohli reflected in India’s poor performance in the three Tests. Barring the second innings at Pune, where Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant formed a record partnership to take India’s total to over 450, India crossed the 200-run mark only once and twice in the rest of the series. They were bowled out by 46 runs in the first innings of the Bangalore Test, their lowest ever at home.

Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja were the only Indian players to score consistently in the series, but the contributions of the others were so minimal that India suffered their first-ever defeat at home (in a series of at least three Tests).

Rohit agreed that he is not up to par either as a captain or as an opener. He was dismissed by pacers on spin-friendly tracks and the shot he played in the second innings in Mumbai to throw away a wicket before the spinners had even come to bowl raised many eyebrows.

Kohli was no better. His shortcomings against left-arm spinners were exposed like never before. Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel caught him off guard, beating him both inside and outside.

Fans couldn’t handle the sudden fall of Rohit and Kohli. Generally, those who were busy with the ‘best Test’ debate between Kohli and Rohit demanded that it end.

There is a strong possibility that the upcoming five-match Test series against Australia could be the last for at least two of the four senior players: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, who are nearing the end of their international careers. This was reported by news agency PTI.

There could be an informal discussion between BCCI bigwigs and selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit on the future course of action for the aging team.

“Of course there will be inventory taken and this may be informal as the team leaves for Australia on November 10th. tinkering,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
