Homes severely damaged by tornado in southeast Oklahoma City near 89th Street and earlier

Southeast Oklahoma City suffered extensive damage from a tornado that touched down early Sunday morning.

So far, authorities have confirmed only 11 injuries as a result of the storm, all of them non-life-threatening.

Police did not provide any other details about the victims. OKC Fire confirmed six people were transported from the hard-hit area of ​​SE 89th and Sooner, with the remaining five in Choctaw.

In southeast Oklahoma City, a tornado path damaged homes, tearing off roofs, toppling trees and power poles, scattering tree limbs and overturning cars.

News 9’s Matt McCabe was on the scene all day surveying the damage and talking to neighbors who were affected by the storm in the middle of the night.

“I didn’t know what to expect, we didn’t have time to get to the storm shelter, it hit so quickly,” said Aaron Martinez, whose home was damaged in the storm.

Another round of severe weather is possible later Sunday and Monday.
