Swimmer in distress rescued at Elbow Beach

Members of the public approached to help a 44-year-old man who was “seen unconscious in the water” at Elbow Beach.

A police spokesman said: “At approximately 3.45pm on Thursday 24 October 2024, police received several reports of a swimmer in distress on the public side of Elbow Beach.

“Officers were advised that the swimmer, a 44-year-old man, had gone underwater and had not been seen for some time.

“The man, a guest worker from the Philippines, subsequently surfaced and was seen unconscious in the water.

“When they arrived, officers discovered that members of the public had pulled the man from the water and brought him to the beach where life-saving measures were taken.

“Paramedics arrived shortly afterwards and continued rescue efforts while the man was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

“At last check he continued treatment.

“Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the main police number at 295-0011 or 211.

“The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank those members of the public who helped remove the man from the water and administer CPR before emergency services arrived.”
